Weekend Style in the Summer: Fashion Essentials
May 27, 2015 | BY Sabah Karimi
Summer is kind of like the weekend of the year. After the long, long work week of the colder months, you want a little adventure in your life. You're ready for the beach, a barbecue, the mall, or just a nice long drive with the windows down, and that's what summer is all about. So you have to take full advantage of your actual weekends in the summer before the cold sweeps back in. Weekend style in the summer is all about easy, comfortable glamour — having great fashion options that are ready when you are. Here are a few essentials that can keep up with your imagination and sense of fun this season.
In the tradition of summer fashion standbys like espadrilles and classic hats, an oversize straw tote will take you from the mall to the beach in style. If the looks you put together tend to be more futuristic than rustic, translucent and transparent PVC totes add cool, mod fun to your couture. When you're throwing things together for an impulsive overnight or a longer road trip, make sure to pack an oversize tote with extra compartments to carry your beach towel, personal items, bottles of water, and other essentials.
Wedge sandals are the last word in summer function meeting summer fashion. They're comfy, easy to throw on, and range in style from laid-back beach bunny to nightclub fashionista. Try on a pair with a high-slit skirt or wrap dress this season. Wedge sandals elongate your legs and create a playful, carefree look.
When you're spending the afternoon by the beach or just relaxing poolside on your weekend getaway, wrap yourself up in a sarong to stay comfortable and stylish. A floral print or mesh sarong can freshen up your look this season. A longer sarong can double as a long skirt, while shorter styles are great coverups for when you get out of the water. Just wrap it around the waist of your one-piece swimsuit or wear it as a cape to add some drama to your summer selfies.
A proper pair of sun specs may be the first image that comes to mind when you think about weekend style in the summer. You can go for rhinestone shades or cheap sunglasses — just make sure to find a pair that's really you. If you're going for vintage classy in capris and a headscarf, try on a pair of cat's-eye frames. If you're hitting the beach in a contemporary-cool maxi dress, go glam in a pair of Jackie O. shades.
Now that you're ready to take on the weekend in style, get out there and enjoy everything summer has to offer!
